Holiday Concerts Pack Them In!The Chorale's 110 voices singing the "Hallelujah Chorus" from Handel's Messiah stirred the hearts of all and the performance of "The Twelve Days After Christmas." and "the Grinch" brought smiles to the faces of everyone who attended one of the Holiday Concerts. The concert theme of Seasonal Treasures included old favorites such as "An Irving Berlin Christmas" and "I'll Be Home For Christmas." Both concerts also included an original composition by Chorale Director Craig Sparks entitled "You Are Welcome Here. " For the fist time in the Chorale's brief history, the Chorale charged $5.00/ ticket for the performance at the Bowie Center for Performing Arts on the evening of December 18. Six hundred thirty three (633) tickets were sold for this event. Perhaps the next concert at BCPA will be a sell-out.
There was standing room only for the performance of the Bowie Senior Chorale at the Bowie Senior Center on the afternoon of December 10th. The room was set up with approximately 200 chairs, which were filled 20 minutes before the start of the performance. The maintenance staff had to bring extra chairs from the classrooms and there still were not enough to accommodate everyone. This concert was free, but a donation for the Bowie Food Pantry was encouraged. Although there is no official estimate to the amount of food collected, it completely filled the back of a CRV. The Chorale extends its sincere appreciation to all who made the holiday conerts possible including everyone who attended, gave support, and helped produce the concert. A special thanks to the members of the Bowie-Crofton Camera club who photographed the events. There are over 40 photographs from the Holiday Concerts on the Concert page. Join the ChoraleRehearsals are underway for the Spring Semester and are held every Thursday afternoon from 2:30pm to 4:30pm at the Bowie Senior Center. Prospective members are welcome to stop by one of our rehearsals if you are interested in joining. We are dedicated to good singing and fun. It is not necessary that you read music, but it certainly is helpful. See if the music we sing and our camaraderie "turns you on." You must be a member of the Bowie Senior Center to join the Chorale. Membership in the Senior Center is free but you must be 55 years of age or older. The cost to sing in the Chorale is $25.00/ semester. The Chorale will also be starting a "Small Group Ensemble." This is a group that will be used when the Chorale gets a request to perform at a venue that will not accommodate the entire chorale. Anyone interested should contact Marg Bond at: MargBond@aol.com If you want to know more about the Chorale, Contact:
"Right or wrong notes are irrelevant if we don't have the right rhythm." "Don't bury your head in the music. The music isn't on that paper. The music is in you. Make the music from your heart. You owe it to yourself." "We need some crisposity. We need to work on our doots." [Doots? Ask any chorale member. They know.] |
